The current Roundhouse Theatre production of Kiss Me Kate features an incredible cast of actors. This includes Tony Award-winning actress\u00a0Kelli O&#8217;Hara\u00a0as &#8220;Kate\/Lilli Vanessi,&#8221; Tony Award nominee\u00a0Will Chase\u00a0as &#8220;Petruchio\/Fred Graham,&#8221;\u00a0Corbin Bleu\u00a0as &#8220;Lucentio\/Bill Calhoun,&#8221;\u00a0Terence Archie\u00a0as &#8220;Harrison Howell,&#8221;\u00a0Mel Johnson\u00a0Jr. as &#8220;Harry Trevor\/Baptista,&#8221;\u00a0James T. Lane\u00a0as &#8220;Paul,&#8221;\u00a0Stephanie Styles\u00a0as &#8220;Lois Lane\/Bianca,&#8221;\u00a0Adrienne Walker\u00a0as \u201cHattie,&#8221; and\u00a0Lance Coadie Williams\u00a0and\u00a0John Pankow\u00a0as the pair of Gangsters &#8211; a lineup that infuses the old lines and songs with a refreshing liveliness and energy that is bound to take your breath away!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-951\" src=\"http:\/\/www.studio54theatre.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/kiss-me-kate-3.png\" alt=\"kiss me kate get tickets studio 54 theater\" width=\"580\" height=\"345\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align:center\">\u201cIn Roundabout\u2019s current revival, the majestic Kelli O\u2019Hara\u2019s honey volcano of a voice pours out with seemingly zero effort, and you can almost see smoke rising from the heels of the gazelle-like ensemble as they tear through Warren Carlyle\u2019s splashy golden-age choreography\u201d<br \/> <em>&#8211; Vulture<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>Using a classically successful theatre-within-theatre plot device, Kiss Me Kate follows a group of actors as they attempt to stage Shakespeare\u2019s \u201cThe Taming Of The Shrew,\u201d a play that looks at gender roles in a highly antiquated fashion, but while doing so, are engaged in heated gender-related battles of their own &#8211; Katharine and Petruchio in The Shrew are played by ex husband-and-wife Lilli and Fred. The original musical left plenty to be desired in the moral outcomes in this department, but critics and audiences to far have been satisfied with the update.<\/p>\n<p>The modern Kiss Me Kate features stronger female leads, who break out of their pre-described and basic sexual stereotyping, does away with some of the musical\u2019s most distasteful and outdated aspects regarding gender equality, and turns the moral ending of female subservience into one that places the emphasis on compromise being essential in the relationship &#8211; regardless of either partner\u2019s sex. Happily, Scott Ellis\u2019 reimagining of the musical has raised the bar of the plot content to match its outstanding musical score &#8211; and the new choreography by Warren Carlyle takes the visual dynamic of Kiss Me Kate through the roof and then some.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-956\" src=\"http:\/\/www.studio54theatre.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/kiss-me-kate-1-1.png\" alt=\"kiss me kate broadway buy tickets studio 54 theater\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align:center\">\u201cIn the constellation of musical comedy masterpieces,\u00a0Kiss Me, Kate\u00a0shines as perhaps Broadway&#8217;s most sparkling achievement\u201d<br \/><em> &#8211; Broadway World<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>Kiss Me Kate has always been known for it\u2019s fun, energetic, witty songs, including \u201cToo Darn Hot,\u201d &#8220;I Hate Men,\u201d and &#8220;Another Op&#8217;nin&#8217;, Another Show,\u201d as well as soaring ballads such as &#8220;So in Love\u201d that showcase the actor\u2019s incredible vocal abilities as much as their truly flawless characterisation. As for the new choreography, expect to see some dance routines that you\u2019d pay for all by themselves. These are as diverse and varied as to include acrobats, big jazz routines, and the inclusion of some very clever set designed that allow for an ingenious upside-down tap dance.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, it\u2019s a visually spectacular and fun-filled production that has shed its unpleasant elements that may once have left a sour taste in the mouth &#8211; now, it\u2019s simply a delight for all the senses.
