Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles – An opportunistic but struggling young scriptwriter Joe Gillis shops his script around town. While out and about in town, Joe, a down on his luck writer who has missed several car payments, is discovered by car reposessing agents and a car chase ensues. When Joe finds himself in a dilapitated mansion to hide, he meets a silent film star Norma Desmond. Regarded as a has-been, Norma is working on a script for a film called Salome – this is supposed to be her monumental comeback.Norma offers Joe some work to help edit the script, he quickly accepts. The work was more difficult than expected as Joe become trapped in the mansion for months. Joe and Norma develop a relationship, but Joe remembers his commitment with young scriptwriter Betty Schaefer, who had promised they would work on a script together. Now that Norma is totally captivated by Joe’s charms and showers him with gifts, all seems well but things take a turn when Norma becomes obsessive.
