During its brainstorming stage, Moulin Rouge! The Musical needed to take on the challenge of exceeding or no less than being at a matched level with the original film created by Baz Luhrmann. As viewers can attest to, Moulin Rouge in Broadway has become one of Broadway's treasures with repeated standing ovations from both fans and critics alike. Broadway World’s Miranda Keating even praised the production after watching, in quote, “Honestly, as as the curtain was pulled back, I was instantly plunged into the beauty of what was designed as 19th century Paris. When the production ended, I initially had no visible reaction. The musical's narrative itself is a rollercoaster with extreme emotion about Christian and Satine, an American composer arrives in Paris to look for something to inspire him, and a performer in the Moulin Rouge entertainment venue, respectively. Christian and Satine begin a secret affair as they get closer to each other, and it is in their entanglement that they face challenges that at many times seem insurmountable, though what they feel trumps any hurdle they face.
In the duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the whole show, this story is shared largely through song and dance, with breathtaking scoring from the production crew, which is a combination of mash-ups, medleys, and even classic tunes. Manchester Media Group reported that Moulin Rouge is “a musical full of life because of its brilliant cast and crew.” From the colorful opening number up to the last performance, the musical’s sparkle shines through; plus the fact that even the cast members are composed of singer heavyweights including Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo originating the roles of Christian and Satine and you have a worldwide phenomenon on your hands.
