During its brainstorming stage, Moulin Rouge! The Musical had to take on the challenge of exceeding or at least being at a matched level with the original film created by Baz Luhrmann. As viewers can attest to, the Broadway stage adaptation has become one of Broadway's treasures with an impressive turnout each show from both original film and Broadway fans. Broadway World’s Miranda Keating even appreciated the show after watching, in quote, “To be frank, as as I entered the theatre, I was instantenously transported into the heart-racing love story of Christian and Satine. When the production ended, I initially had nothing to say. I was left speechless by the spectacle.” The Broadway hit continues its performances to date, now available in New York and to be staged at Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Saturday 20th December 2025, Al Hirschfeld Theatre being one of the country's unrivaled show venues with creative architecture, sound design, and classy decor both for the interior and exterior of the venue.
The musical's plot itself is a rollercoaster with extreme emotion focused on Christian and Satine, an American composer arrives in Paris to find out his dream and path in life, and a performer in the Moulin Rouge nightclub, respectively. They begin a secret affair as they get closer to each other, and it is in their affair that they go back and forth as they try to unsuccessfully stop themselves, though what they feel trumps any hurdle they face.
In the duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the entire show, this story is shared largely through song, with awesome musical scoring from the production crew, which is a combination of mash-ups, medleys, and even songs from the 2001 film. Manchester Media Group was quoted that the play is “an experience for the senses as soon as you arrive.” From the 19th century set to the modern pop numbers, the musical’s brilliance reveals itself; consider the fact that even the cast is composed of singer heavyweights like Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo originating the roles of Christian and Satine and you have a box office hit on your hands.
