During its brainstorming stage, Moulin Rouge! The Musical needed to meet high expectations of exceeding or at minimum being at par with the 2001 motion picture created by Baz Luhrmann. The musical's current success tells us that the Broadway stage adaptation has more than lived up to the name with repeated standing ovations from both original film and Broadway fans. Broadway World’s Miranda Keating even praised the production after viewing, saying “Truthfully, as as the curtain was pulled back, I was immediately transported into the beauty of what was designed as 19th century Paris. When the production ended, I initially had nothing to say. I was left speechless by the spectacle.” The Broadway hit carries on its runs to date, now available in New York and to be staged at Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Saturday 11th October 2025, Al Hirschfeld Theatre renowned for being one of the country's favorite theatre venues with complete lighting and sound design, large seating capacity, and modern furnishings both inside and outside of the theatre.
The play's narrative itself is your classic and tragic love story about Christian and Satine, an American composer arrives in Montmartre, Paris to jumpstart his career as a writer and composer, and a performer in the Moulin Rouge nightclub, respectively. They fall madly in love as they get to know each other, and it is in their entanglement that they face challenges that at many times seem insurmountable, though their love for each other pushes them on.
In the duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the entire musical, this show is shared mainly through music, with spectacular scoring from the creative team, which is a blend of mash-ups, medleys, and even classical numbers. Manchester Media Group stated that the play is “a musical full of life because of its brilliant cast and crew.” From the colorful opening number up to the last performance, the musical’s sparkle reveals itself; plus the fact that even the cast is composed of singer heavyweights including Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo leading the roles of Christian and Satine and you have another Broadway gem on your hands.
