Moulin Rouge! The Musical will be performing on Saturday 4th October 2025 at Al Hirschfeld Theatre. A tale of two falling in unlikely love, Moulin Rouge! The Musical recounts to us a classical tale of romance in the equally passionate city of Paris, France. In the underbelly of Montmartre, Christian, a motivated writer who moves in Paris with nothing but hope in his heart, meets the most beautiful woman he has seen and club entertainer, Satine, in the renowned nightclub Moulin Rouge. Christian and Satine then start to have romantic encounters, but in secret, as another wealthy benefactor sets his target on Satine as his prize.
Paying tribute to Baz Luhrmann's original that was produced more than a decade after the late movie, this Broadway play's early challenge was to present an unfamiliar setting to a new generation. The masterful approach of the team, just like the 2001 movie, was to share the tragic love story with unexpectedly new renditions of this generation's popular songs. The next move was to expand the song list and truly transform it into a “jukebox musical with a difference”, as the creators refer to it. The result, as watched on the Broadway stage, was a great combination of epic medleys, mash-ups, and arrangements. Though the musical retains some of the 2001 picture's beloved tracks including Lady Marmalade, Moulin Rouge now has pop hits from the current times including Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, Beyonce’s Single Ladies, and Britney Spears’ Toxic that is more familiar to younger audiences.
