Moulin Rouge – The Musical at Al Hirschfeld Theatre

Before its debut in 2019, Moulin Rouge! The Musical had to take on the challenge of exceeding or at minimum being at par with the original film of the same name. With overwhelmingly positive reviews, even critics know that the Broadway stage adaptation has ensured that it is here to stay with repeated standing ovations from both original film and Broadway fans. Broadway World’s Miranda Keating even praised the production after reviewing, stating “To be frank, as as I entered the theatre, I was instantenously immersed into the magical, beautiful world of the Moulin Rouge. When the final act concluded, I initially had no visible reaction. I was left speechless by the spectacle.” The musical continues its performances to date, now reaching New York and to be staged at Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Friday 5th September 2025, Al Hirschfeld Theatre known as one of the city's best show venues with creative architecture, sound design, and classy decor both inside and outside of the theatre.

The musical's plot itself is a fresh retelling of the 2001 film following Christian and Satine, an American composer arrives in Montmartre, Paris to find out his dream and path in life, and a star performer in the Moulin Rouge nightclub, respectively. Christian and Satine fall madly in love as they get to know each other, and it is in their affair that they face challenges that at many times seem insurmountable, though their love for each other pushes them on.

In the approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes of the whole musical, this tale is presented mainly through song and dance, with amazing scoring from the production, which is a blend of mash-ups, medleys, and even songs from the 2001 film. Manchester Media Group stated that Moulin Rouge is “an experience for the senses as soon as you arrive.” From the colorful opening number up to the last performance, the musical’s sparkle shines through; consider the fact that even the actors and actresses are composed of singer superstars including Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo performing the characters of Christian and Satine and you have a worldwide phenomenon on your hands.
