Moulin Rouge - The Musical

Al Hirschfeld Theatre

The 2001 Baz Luhrmann film, Moulin Rouge gained nominations at the 74th Academy Awards, grossing nearly $180 million worldwide. This instant hit musical film about romance and risks wasn't forgotten and is now a hit jukebox musical performed around the world. The Broadway show took years in the making since there were merely whispers of a Broadway adaptation in 2002 and 2006. But in 2016, it was formally announced that this glamorous film would hit the stage. The show finally debuted in 2019 but took a year-and-a-half break starting in 2020 thanks to worldwide events, but it has been up and running since mid-2021 with great success.

The story of American composer Christian and Parisian entertainer Satine will melt your heart. Christian meets talented French Bohemians who want to create songs for a theatrical production and agree to partner with him to get their play into production at the Moulin Rouge theater. Satine works at this theater, but it's quickly going under and could close forever. Satine wants to save the Moulin Rouge and considers seducing a wealthy Duke who has shown interest in investing in the theater to save it. However, Satine and Christian cross paths and fall in love. Of course, the Duke doesn't like Satine falling for Christian and threatens to chancel his investment, and threatens Christian's life if he continues pursuing Satine.

This breathtaking production of romance and glamour will have you cheering for love to prevail. You'll be swept away by these characters and their musical performances. The jukebox musical combines many songs to create memorable mash-ups you won't stop singing for weeks. You'll hear the songs from the movie from Patti LaBelle, Elton John, and more, with modern hits from Katy Perry, Lorde, and many others. If you love pop music hits from the past 50 years, you won't want to miss this dramatic production that will have you singing along as you enjoy the show.

Whether you grab your friends, family, a date, or go alone, you won't want to miss "Moulin Rouge!” The beautifully feisty play tells a story about love, truth, and beauty and does so with grandeur.
